FAQS™/DOCS
Console Management Solution
Platform: z/VSE and VSEⁿ
FAQS™/DOCS adds flexibility to your overall system operation and provides significant features in a distributed and unattended environment.
Mutual operation with Native Console Functions: FAQS™/DOCS operates in conjunction with VSE/ESA’s native console support, including using the normal VSE hardcopy file.
Console Automation: FAQS™/DOCS lets you establish automatic replies to anticipated messages. This reduces human errors since the operator responds to fewer messages.
Multiple Console Support: You can use local, remote, pseudo-remote, and z/VM terminals as a FAQS™/DOCS console. This includes
BTAM and VTAM terminals as well as those using DOCSCMS commands from z/VM.
Sharing Consoles: The “Device on Loan” feature allows greater flexibility because consoles can be switched between application programs and FAQS™/DOCS.
Status Reporting: The Dynamic System Status Display always shows the status of each partition or the logical reader/writer tasks. Additionally, FAQS™/DOCS provides commands to display the console status and use at any time.
Security: Console exclusion permits individual consoles to be used for specific purposes. Also, the password controls provided in user and system profiles add extra levels of control.
Display System General Information: The FAQS™/DOCS VTOC facility allows the console user to display information relating to system DASD devices. The LABEL function displays information on labels used by all partitions or a specific partition.
Job Management Aids: Using “PAUSE on ABEND,” End-of-Job Logging, and the automatic PGO facilities give you greater job information and control.
PF Keys: FAQS™/DOCS allows individual users to assign PF key functions. Also, the “hot key” facility lets you easily switch between FAQS™/DOCS and applications.
Spool Queue Facility: Using this facility, users have access to all, selected, or individual spool files.
